About the Lodge

Kennicott Glacier Lodge is located near the center of the 40 remaining structures in the historic town of Kennicott. The Lodge opened in 1987 and the Main Lodge is a replica of one of the historic mining buildings from the copper mining boom town days.

The Main Lodge has 23 comfortable Guest rooms, a dining room, 2 common rooms with books and games, and a 190 foot long front porch with a panoramic view of the Chugach and Wrangell Mountains.

The rooms in the Main Lodge are decorated with old mining artifacts and photos and make a great home base for exploring the area. Each Guest room has a cold water sink, one or two beds, a nightstand and chair. Some of the rooms face the glacier and some rooms face the forest behind the lodge. The rooms are smaller than typical hotel rooms and do not have a bathroom in the room.  There are plenty of spotlessly clean bathrooms and shower rooms located throughout the lodge for your use. Baths are “individual use” but are shared with other Guests.

The South Wing building is located about 70 yards south of the Main Lodge. In the South Wing there are 20 Guest rooms, each with a private bathroom. These rooms have 2 queen sized beds, a dresser, a nightstand, a table, and chairs. All South Wing rooms face the glacier, and the first floor rooms have access out onto the front porch. Meals are taken at the Main Lodge.

You’ll enjoy the casual atmosphere and congenial staff when you dine in our centrally located dining room in the Main Lodge.  The fare has been called “wilderness gourmet” and features homemade soups, pastries, breads and luscious desserts.
